PVM1 Peak Voltage Meter
The SafeTac VRD® PVM1 Peak Voltage Meter is a handheld meter specifically designed to test the peak DC voltage of stick (MMA) welding machines, ensuring compliance with Australian Standard AS 1674.2:2007. Unlike standard voltmeters, which display average voltage, the PVM1 measures the actual peak voltage, providing accurate readings critical for safety in Category “C” welding environments. Compact, reliable, and easy to use, it is an essential tool for welders and inspectors checking voltage output and machine calibration.
Key Features
- Measures peak DC voltage of stick (MMA) welding machines.
- Compliant with AS 1674.2:2007, Table 3.2.6(e) – voltage between electrode holder and workpiece not to exceed 35 V peak.
- Displays both peak voltage and average voltage for calibration checks.
- Constructed with a high-precision analogue-to-digital Japanese voltmeter.
- Fitted with 12.5 W 5K variable resistor and 200 Ω 50 W 1% fixed resistor with heat sink.
- All capacitors rated at 250 VDC or better.
- 3 Amp internal fuse for protection when testing higher voltage machines.
- Input via 2 x 1000 V rated test leads with insulated banana plugs (replaceable).
- Features auto reverse polarity and auto zero meter functions.
- Powered by a standard 9V PP3 battery, accessible via rear cover.
- Accuracy checked with a NATA-calibrated Fluke Multimeter prior to shipping.
- Optional full NATA calibration certificate available (additional lab charges apply).
Additional Information
The PVM1 allows welders to safely verify that their welding machines meet voltage limits, preventing potential hazards in the workplace. Its robust construction, precise components, and easy-to-read display make it a reliable choice for both on-site inspections and workshop use.
